     3x100mm Shaft Rod is a solid, plain round steel shaft with 3mm diameter and 100mm length. Its surface is plain and smooth; it has no thread, groove or flat, and both ends are cut square. It is used as a wheel axle, gear and pulley shaft or as a carrier pin between two parts in toy and model vehicles. It weighs about 5.5gr.

     Wheels, gears, pulleys, couplings and bearings with 3mm bore fit directly onto the shaft. The 100mm length is enough as a one-piece axle in small and medium toy cars, robot chassis and model airplanes; when a shorter axle is needed the shaft is cut with a hacksaw or cutting disc, and two or three short axles or pins can be made from one rod. It is metallic gray.

     The 3mm diameter is thicker than the 2mm shaft sold in the same series; the 100mm length is shorter than the 3mm x 150mm shaft; it fits narrow chassis and short axles with less cutting. The product is for toy and model scale; it does not replace heavy-load and precision machine shafts.

Usage information:

• Measure the required axle length; if it must be shortened, clamp the shaft in a vise or with pliers and cut it with a hacksaw or cutting disc. Remove the burr at the end with a file or sandpaper after cutting; a burred end will not enter the wheel and bearing bore.
• Slide the wheel and gear onto the shaft; fix a loose part with adhesive, a set screw or a shaft collar (stop ring) fitted on the shaft.
• If the shaft is mounted in a body or chassis, drill the seat slightly larger than 3mm or use a bushing/bearing; the shaft should turn without binding.

Precautions:

•  The shaft is 3mm in diameter; it may bend under high load or impact. Use it only at toy, model and scale model level.
•  It is not specified as stainless steel. In humid environments and boat applications in contact with water, protect the shaft with a thin layer of oil.
•  Wear safety glasses when cutting; the cut end may be sharp, remove the burr.
•  Make sure the bore of the wheel, gear and bearing is 3mm; parts with 2mm bore do not fit this shaft, parts with larger bore sit loose without a bushing.
•  The length is 100mm; wider-axle vehicles need the 150mm shaft.
