PCM5102A DAC Module
IIS Sound Card Music Generator Digital Analog Converter Raspberry Pi Esp32 Hi-Fi High Quality Sound System Media Player Radio
The product must be soldered to be used. Soldered products cannot be returned due to physical change. If you do not have good soldering equipment or if your electronics knowledge is not at a good level, you may damage the product. In such cases, not buying the product will be the more correct choice.
The PCM5102A DAC Module is a sound card module that converts digital audio coming from the I2S (IIS) bus into analog stereo audio. The board carries the Texas Instruments PCM5102A digital to analog converter IC; the IC processes 16, 24 and 32 bit audio data at sample rates up to 384kHz and gives a clean output with 112dB signal to noise ratio and -93dB total harmonic distortion (THD+N).
One edge of the board has the SCK, BCK, DIN, LCK, GND and VIN connection pins, the other end has a soldered 3.5mm stereo jack output. The output can also be taken from the G, R, G, L pins. Because the internal PLL of the IC generates the system clock from the BCK line, no separate master clock (MCLK) line is needed; only 3 signal lines, BCK, LCK and DIN, are enough.
The purple board measures 31.9mm x 16.9mm and is powered from 5V. The output is line level; the module is used with I2S capable controller boards to build music players, internet radios and media players, or to feed a clean audio source to an active speaker or amplifier.
Key features:
PCM5102A converter: The Texas Instruments PCM5102A IC converts audio data up to 32 bit at sample rates up to 384kHz into analog audio; it gives a 112dB signal to noise ratio.
No master clock needed: The internal PLL generates the clock from the BCK line; it works with 3 signal lines, BCK, LCK and DIN, so no separate MCLK line has to be connected.
Ready 3.5mm output: A soldered 3.5mm stereo jack is on the board; an active speaker or amplifier connects directly with a standard audio cable. The output can also be taken from the G, R, G, L pins.
Line level stereo output: The IC gives about 2.1Vrms full scale line level output; right and left channels come out separately.
Small board: The 31.9mm x 16.9mm board easily fits into device enclosures and small audio projects.
Features:
- Product type: stereo DAC (digital to analog converter) module with I2S input
- IC: Texas Instruments PCM5102A
- Input: I2S (IIS) digital audio
- Data resolution: 16 / 24 / 32 bit
- Sample rate: up to 384kHz
- Signal to noise ratio (SNR): 112dB (IC value)
- Dynamic range: 112dB (IC value)
- Total harmonic distortion (THD+N): -93dB, about 0.002% (IC value, -1dBFS)
- Output: stereo line output, about 2.1Vrms at full scale
- Output connection: soldered 3.5mm stereo jack and G, R, G, L output pins
- Clock: internal PLL; no external master clock (MCLK) needed
- Connection pins: SCK, BCK, DIN, LCK, GND, VIN
- Configuration pins (1-4): 1 FLT (filter latency), 2 DEMP (44.1kHz de-emphasis), 3 XSMT (soft mute), 4 FMT (I2S / left justified format); selected with the solder bridges on the back of the board
- Supply (VIN): DC 5V
- Compatible boards: Raspberry Pi, ESP32, STM32 and controller boards with an I2S output
- Operating temperature: -25°C - +85°C (IC value)
- Board color: Purple
- Dimensions: 31.9mm x 16.9mm
- Weight: about 3gr
Usage information:
- Connect the VIN pin to the 5V supply and the GND pin to the GND of the controller board. Connect BCK to the I2S bit clock, LCK to the I2S word select (LRCK / WS) and DIN to the I2S data output. On the Raspberry Pi these lines are GPIO18, GPIO19 and GPIO21 respectively.
- If SCK (system clock) is not used it must be tied to GND; the IC then generates its clock from the BCK line itself.
- Connect the 3.5mm jack output to the input of an active speaker or amplifier with a standard stereo audio cable. The G, R, G, L pins can be used instead of a cable.
- If there is no sound although the wiring is correct, check that pin 3 (XSMT) is at high (3.3V) level; while XSMT is low the output is muted. Usual setting: 1 FLT, 2 DEMP and 4 FMT low (I2S format), 3 XSMT high.
Areas of use:
- Hi-Fi music player projects
- Internet radio
- Media player and home media center
- Bluetooth audio receiver projects
- Audio source for active speakers and amplifiers
- Announcement and audible alarm systems
- Doorbell and audible notification devices
- Synthesizer and sound effect projects
- Raspberry Pi sound card
- Education and audio laboratory applications
Precautions:
- The output is line level. Do not connect a speaker directly; use an amplifier or an active speaker. It is not designed to drive headphones (minimum load of the IC is 1kΩ).
- The headers are not soldered to the board; soldering is required. Soldered products cannot be returned.
- Do not apply more than 5V to the VIN pin; the board may be damaged.
- Keep the I2S lines short; long and messy wiring may cause noise in the audio.
