8P8C Metal RJ45 Socket Ethernet Connection Socket
8 Pin Pcb Mount 90 Degree DIP 1 Port
The 8P8C Metal RJ45 Socket is a single port RJ45 female jack for through-hole soldering to a printed circuit board, with a 90 degree (horizontal) entry. It has no Ethernet transformer (magnetics) and no LED inside: the 8 contacts go straight to 8 PCB pins. The black plastic body is wrapped in a nickel plated metal shield; the shield legs on the sides are soldered to the board, connecting it to chassis (ground) and holding the jack firmly. A Cat5e / Cat6 network cable with a standard RJ45 plug fits it.
Because it has no transformer, it suits two kinds of use. In Ethernet board design it is the cable entry for circuits that use a separate Ethernet transformer (magnetics) on the board. Outside Ethernet, it is used as a plain 8 wire connection socket for RS485, CAN, DMX and Modbus lines carried over RJ45 cable, for sensor and driver connections, or in cable test circuits.
Each contact is rated for at most 1.5A and at most 120V AC; contact resistance is at most 40mΩ and insulation resistance at least 500MΩ. It measures 15.8mm wide, 18.5mm deep and 13.5mm high. Two plastic locating pins seat it in the right place on the board.
Key features:
No transformer, no LED: There is no Ethernet transformer and no LED inside; the 8 contacts go straight to the board. It gives a direct connection for non-Ethernet signals (RS485, CAN, DMX) and is used with an external transformer for Ethernet.
Metal shielded body: The nickel plated metal shield protects against external noise; its side legs are soldered to the board, connect to chassis and hold the jack firm while plugging and unplugging.
90 degree PCB mount: The cable enters from the side, in the plane of the board; placed on the board edge, it opens out through the device enclosure.
1.5A, 120V AC contacts: At most 1.5A and at most 120V AC per contact; contact resistance at most 40mΩ, insulation resistance at least 500MΩ.
Compact size: 15.8mm x 18.5mm x 13.5mm body, seated in correct alignment on the board by 2 plastic locating pins.

- Weight: about 5gr
Usage information:
- Place the jack on the board edge with the opening facing out; the 2 plastic pins fit the holes in the board. Solder the shield legs first, then the 8 signal pins. Connect the shield legs to the chassis / ground line of the device.
- For Ethernet, put an external Ethernet transformer (magnetics) between the signal pins and the Ethernet chip. On lines such as RS485, CAN or DMX, assign the pins according to the standard you use or the wiring diagram of the connected device; the cable color order is usually T568B.
- Keep soldering time short; the plastic body softens under prolonged heat and the contacts can shift.
Applications:
- Network cards and Ethernet circuit design with an external Ethernet transformer
- Cable connection point on Switch, Router and Modem boards
- Network input on IP Camera and Server boards (with external transformer)
- RS485 communication lines (over RJ45 cable)
- CAN bus connections
- DMX lighting control lines (over RJ45 cable)
- Modbus RTU driver and sensor connections
- Cable Tester devices and RJ45 cable check circuits
- Sensor, driver and interconnect board links needing a plain 8 wire connection
Precautions:
- This jack has NO TRANSFORMER: it does not connect directly to the pins of an Ethernet chip (PHY); an external Ethernet transformer is needed in between. If you need a ready jack with transformer and LEDs, choose a model with magnetics such as HR911105A or HY911108H.
- There is no LED; if link and activity lights are needed, add separate LEDs on the board.
- Do not exceed max 1.5A and max 120V AC per contact; do not carry high current or mains voltage over the RJ45 cable.
- The shield legs are not signal lines; do not short them to the signal pins, connect them only to the chassis / ground line.
