RS555 DC Motor 12V 7500Rpm
High Speed Torque Drill Lathe CNC Router Motor Circular Saw Low Noise Model Boat Car Olive Harvest Simulator Steering Wheel Textile
The RS555 DC Motor 12V 7500Rpm is a brushed (carbon brush) permanent magnet DC motor with a diameter of 36mm and a body length of 57mm. At 12V it turns about 7500rpm with no load, draws 0.5A with no load and up to 2A under load; its power is 20W and its working torque is about 300gr.cm. It works between 6V and 18V; the speed drops as the voltage drops and rises as it increases.
On the front face there is a 3.17mm (1/8 inch) diameter, 10mm long plain shaft, a 13mm diameter and 4.5mm high bearing boss around the shaft and 2 M3 mounting holes. The plain shaft is suitable for fitting a mini drill chuck, a saw or sanding disc adapter, a pulley and a coupling; if a gear is needed, a pinion is pressed onto the shaft separately. The supply wires are soldered to the 2 terminals on the rear cover; when the polarity is reversed the motor turns in the opposite direction.
The motor in this listing is the 12V plain shaft version; it should not be confused with the 21V cordless tool motor with a 14 tooth pinion (RS550). Speed control is done with a PWM motor speed controller board.
Key features:
High speed: About 7500rpm with no load at 12V; suitable for speed-demanding jobs such as mini drilling, engraving and sanding.
Wide voltage range: It works between 6V and 18V; it can be powered by a 12V adapter, a 3 cell lithium battery or a lead acid battery.
Plain 3.17mm shaft: A chuck, coupling, pulley or pinion is fitted to the 10mm long plain shaft; it is directly compatible with accessories with a 3.17mm bore.
Easy mounting: The 2 M3 holes on the front face and the 13mm bearing boss make it easy to seat the motor in the center of a bracket and screw it in place.
Simple driving: Since it is a brushed DC motor it works with 2 wires; the direction is set by changing polarity and the speed with PWM, no separate driver (ESC) is needed.
Features:
- Motor type: brushed (carbon brush) permanent magnet DC motor
- Model: RS555 (555 size)
- Nominal voltage: 12V DC
- Operating voltage range: 6V - 18V DC
- No load speed: about 7500rpm (12V)
- No load current: 0.5A
- Current under load: 2A maximum (continuous operation; not the stall current)
- Power: 20W
- Working torque: about 300gr.cm
- Mounting: 2 M3 screw holes on the front face
- Connection: 2 solder terminals on the rear cover
- Direction of rotation: bidirectional (by changing polarity)
- Bearing boss: 13mm diameter, 4.5mm height
- Shaft diameter: 3.17mm (1/8 inch)
- Shaft length: 10mm, plain shaft
- Material: metal body, grey label sleeve
- Dimensions: 36mm diameter x 57mm body (about 77mm including shaft and rear boss)
- Weight: about 210gr
Usage information:
- Fix the motor to a bracket with 2 M3 screws; the screws must not be long enough to reach inside the body, a long screw may rub the rotor. If the 13mm bearing boss sits in the hole of the bracket, the shaft is centered by itself.
- Solder the supply wires to the terminals on the rear cover. To reduce electrical noise caused by brush sparking, solder a 100nF ceramic capacitor between the terminals.
- For speed and direction control use a 12V PWM motor speed controller or H bridge motor driver that can handle the stall current (several times 2A) or has current limiting; the motor is not driven directly from a pin of a control board.
Application areas:
- Mini drill and PCB drilling machine
- Mini lathe and engraving tool
- Mini circular saw and cutter
- Sanding, grinding and polishing tool
- Model boat and car
- Olive harvesting (shaker) machine
- Simulator steering wheel and pedal mechanisms
- Textile, coil winding and small workshop machines
- Fan, blower and pump drive
- Generator (wind and hand dynamo) experiments
Things to consider:
- This motor is a brushed DC motor, not brushless; it does not work with a brushless motor controller (ESC). The brushes wear over time and life shortens under continuous heavy load.
- When the motor stalls (shaft not turning) the current rises far above 2A and the windings heat up quickly. Put a suitable fuse in the supply and do not leave the motor stalled for long.
- Supply above 18V damages the brushes and windings; at high voltage and high speed the motor heats up, check the body temperature.
- Do not cover the ventilation openings on the body; keep chips and dust from getting inside the motor.
- This listing is for the plain shaft 12V version; there is no gear on the shaft. If a gear is needed, a pinion with a 3.17mm bore must be fitted separately.
