     This product is a thin body, panel type female DC power socket (DC-022B type) for adapter plugs with 5.5mm outer diameter / 2.1mm inner pin. Its threaded plastic body is inserted from the front into an 8mm hole and fixed from the back with a metal nut. There are 2 solder terminals at the back: one connects to the center pin, the other to the outer sleeve of the plug.

     The body is thinner than 3 pin DC-022 type panel sockets; an 8mm hole is enough instead of 11mm - 12mm. This makes it easy to fit on narrow front panels, small project boxes and thin walled plastic or metal enclosures. On the front, a metal ring surrounds the opening where the plug enters. There is no switch pin; it is intended for devices that need only plus and minus connection without internal battery switching.

     It is used to add a power input to devices powered by an adapter with a 5.5mm x 2.1mm plug, such as routers, modems, security cameras, led strip controller boxes, amplifiers, toys and models. It is not compatible with 5.5mm x 2.5mm plugs.

     Metal front ring: The plug opening is surrounded by a metal ring; only this ring and the plastic flange are visible on the front of the panel.

Usage information:

• Drill an 8mm hole in the panel. Remove the nut, insert the socket into the hole from the front of the panel and tighten the nut lightly from the back by hand or with a wrench.
• Check the polarity mark of your adapter: on most adapters the center pin is plus (+) and the outer sleeve is minus (-). Solder the plus wire to the center pin terminal and the minus wire to the sleeve terminal.
• After soldering, slide heat shrink tubing over the terminals; check that the two terminals and the wires do not touch each other.

Precautions:

•  This socket is for 5.5mm x 2.1mm plugs. If a 5.5mm x 2.5mm plug is inserted, the center pin does not grip tightly and contact becomes intermittent.
•  The body thread is plastic; do not overtighten the nut, the thread may strip. Do not apply liquid thread locker to the plastic thread; some thread lockers crack plastic.
•  The current rating of this type of thin plastic socket is 0.5A - 2A depending on the manufacturer. The contact point heats up under continuous high current; for devices that need more than 1A continuously, prefer the metal body DC099 socket.
•  Polarity may differ by adapter. Reverse polarity damages the device; check the polarity mark on the adapter before connecting.
•  Do not heat the terminal for a long time while soldering; the plastic body may soften and the center pin may shift.
