RS380 DC Motor
High speed DC 18V DIY RC Toy Model Car Boat Helicopter Vacuum Fan Electric Motor
The RS380 DC Motor is a high speed brushed DC motor without gearbox, 27.7mm in diameter with a 37.8mm body length. This version has an 18V rated voltage; its speed rises with voltage and reaches about 11500Rpm no-load speed at 12V. The 2.3mm diameter plain shaft protrudes about 14mm from the front bushing, and the total length is 57mm.
It is screwed to a motor bracket or a gearbox housing with the 2 M2.6 screw holes at 16mm spacing on the front cover. It is powered from the 2 solder terminals on the rear cover; the (+) terminal is marked red, and the rotation direction changes when the polarity is reversed. The ventilation holes on the body help the motor cool down during operation.
It is used in RC model cars and boats that need high speed, in fans and small vacuum mechanisms, and in cordless hand tools and ride-on toy car mechanisms where power is transferred through a pinion or gearbox. It is smaller and lighter (about 75gr) than the larger 37mm body RS550 motor.
Key features:
High speed: Without a gearbox it gives about 11500Rpm no-load speed at 12V; speed increases up to the 18V rated voltage. Suitable for propeller, fan and fast wheel mechanisms.
Small 380 body: With a 27.7mm diameter and 37.8mm body length it fits RS380 / 380 type motor mounts directly; it weighs about 75gr.
Standard mounting: The front cover has 2 M2.6 threaded holes at 16mm spacing and a 10mm diameter centering bushing; it is screwed to brackets and gearbox housings in alignment.
2.3mm plain shaft: A pinion gear, propeller or coupling with a 2.3mm bore fits on the 2.3mm diameter shaft.
Cooling holes: The ventilation holes on the front cover and body help remove heat from the windings and brushes.
Features:
- Product type: High speed brushed DC motor without gearbox
- Model: RS380 (RS-380)
- Rated voltage: 18V
- Operating voltage: runs in about the 3V - 24V range; speed changes with voltage
- No-load speed (12V): about 11500Rpm
- Rotation direction: Bidirectional; direction changes when polarity is reversed
- Motor type: Brushed (commutator) DC motor
- Shaft: 2.3mm diameter plain shaft, about 14mm from the front bushing (16.4mm from the body face)
- Front bushing: 10mm diameter centering bushing
- Mounting: 2 M2.6 threaded screw holes on the front cover, 16mm spacing
- Connection: 2 solder terminals on the rear cover, (+) terminal marked red
- Cooling: Ventilation holes on the front cover and body
- Body material: Metal
- Color: Silver
- Dimensions: 27.7mm diameter, 37.8mm body length, 57mm total length including shaft
- Weight: about 75gr
Usage information:
- Solder the supply wires to the 2 solder terminals on the rear cover; the red marked terminal is (+). To change direction, reverse the polarity or use an H-bridge driver; speed is adjusted with PWM.
- Screw the motor to the bracket through the 2 M2.6 holes (16mm spacing) on the front cover. The screw must be short enough not to go too deep into the motor; a long screw can touch the parts behind the front cover.
- Fit the pinion gear, propeller or coupling on the 2.3mm shaft by press fit or set screw; do not hit the shaft axially while fitting.
Areas of use:
- RC model car drive motor
- RC model boat and propeller drive
- Model helicopter and airplane mechanisms
- Fan, ventilator and air blower mechanisms
- Small vacuum cleaner and suction mechanisms
- Cordless screwdrivers and small hand tools
- Ride-on toy car steering and gearbox motor
- Mixer and stirrer mechanisms
- Robot vehicle drive together with a gearbox
Precautions:
- The motor has no gearbox: its torque is low at high speed. To turn a wheel or heavy load, use it with a gearbox or gear stage.
- A stalled or overloaded motor draws high current and heats up quickly; do not force it for long, and choose the driver and supply accordingly.
- Do not run it above 24V; at higher voltage the brushes and commutator wear quickly.
- The shaft is plain and has no pinion gear. If a gear is needed, a pinion with a 2.3mm bore must be bought separately.
- It cannot be driven directly from a controller board pin; use a motor driver board or a transistor driver. A capacitor can be soldered across the terminals to reduce the noise caused by brush sparking.
