     The SMD Test Probe is a tweezer type multimeter probe made for measuring small surface mount parts such as SMD resistors, capacitors, inductors and diodes with a multimeter by gripping them from both ends. Small parts that slip when held with two standard pointed probes are clamped with one hand between the two arms of the tweezer; the part does not slip during measurement and the other hand stays free. The tweezer arms open up to 10mm and are made for measurement voltages up to 250V.

     The cable from the about 152mm long black tweezer splits into a red (+) and a black (-) cable after a splitter; the angled (L type) plugs at the cable ends fit the standard probe inputs of the multimeter. The plugs have protective caps that are removed before plugging into the multimeter. The cable is about 70-80cm long and the product weighs 52gr. This product is a tweezer probe for multimeters; it is not a logic analyzer hook probe.

Usage information:

• Remove the protective caps from the plugs. Plug the red plug into the V/Ω input of the multimeter and the black plug into the COM input.
• Set the multimeter to the quantity to be measured (resistance, capacitance, diode or continuity), grip the part between the two tips of the tweezer by its two terminals and read the value.
• When measuring a part soldered on a board, parallel paths in the circuit can change the result; for an exact value, remove the part and measure it.

Points to consider:

•  Measure on de-energized circuits. Do not use it on mains voltage (220V) circuits or on a powered board.
•  Discharge a capacitor before measuring it; a charged capacitor can damage the multimeter and spoil the measurement.
•  Remove the protective caps from the plugs before plugging into the multimeter; a capped plug does not seat fully in the input and no measurement is made.
•  Do not force the tweezer arms open more than 10mm; the arms and tips may bend.
