     The SSR Aluminum Heatsink is a silver aluminum cooling block measuring 80mm x 50mm x 50mm, mounted under single phase solid state relays (SSR) rated 10A - 40A. The relay is screwed onto the flat surface of the heatsink through the 2 threaded holes in the top plate; the heat generated in the metal base of the relay during operation passes into the aluminum body and is released into the air through the fins. It weighs 69gr.

     The body has 5 levels of fins on both sides of a central vertical wall; the fin surfaces are finely grooved, so the area in contact with air is large. It is a passive heatsink that needs no fan. The base can be clipped onto a mounting rail inside a control panel with the rail hooks on its underside; without a rail, it can also be screwed onto a flat surface through the slotted ears on both sides of the base.

     It is used in SSR applications that carry current for long periods, such as heater elements, ovens, incubators, extruders and greenhouse heating, to prevent the relay from overheating and failing early. The package contains only the heatsink; the relay and mounting screws are not included.

Usage information:

• Apply a thin layer of thermal paste or a thermal pad to the metal base of the relay, align the relay with the two threaded holes in the top plate and tighten the screws evenly; the relay base must sit on the heatsink without gaps.
• Clip the heatsink onto the mounting rail inside the panel with the rail hooks on the underside of the base, or screw it to a flat surface through the slotted ears on both sides.
• Place the heatsink so that the fins stand vertically and air can pass from bottom to top; do not cover its top and sides with cables or other devices.

Precautions:

•  The package contains only the heatsink; the solid state relay, mounting screws and thermal paste are not included.
•  A relay mounted without thermal paste cannot transfer heat well to the heatsink and gets hot; always put thermal paste or a pad between the relay base and the heatsink.
•  The 10A - 40A value shows the relay body class the heatsink fits; it is not a 40A continuous current rating. For heatsinks of this size, sellers state about 15A - 25A continuous relay current; for higher continuous loads use a fan or a larger heatsink and check the current-temperature curve of the relay.
•  This heatsink is for single phase SSRs; the hole positions of three phase or differently shaped relays do not match.
•  The relay works with mains voltage; do the mounting and wiring with the power off and place the heatsink where its fins are not covered and air can flow.
