     The 40 Pin 10cm Dupont Cable Male Female is a set of 40 jumper wires, each with a male pin on one end and a female socket on the other, supplied as a ribbon with the wires stuck side by side. Each wire is 10cm long and they are arranged in 10 different colours, in an order that repeats every 10 wires. The ends fit the 2.54mm standard header pitch; the wires are separated by hand one by one or as a ribbon of the required width.

     The male end plugs into breadboard holes and female pin header (female socket) slots, while the female end plugs onto the male pin headers of sensor, display, relay and motor driver boards. This way a board with male pins is connected to a breadboard or to a development board with female headers without soldering; a short wire is also used to extend a male pin connection. The 10cm length avoids cable clutter in short connections between a board and a breadboard.

     The difference from the female-female and male-male sets of the same series is the end type: in this set each wire has one male end and one female end. It can be used for a long time and repeatedly; it allows quick temporary connections in repair work.

Usage information:

• Separate the required number of wires by hand starting from the edge of the ribbon; leaving lines that run together (power, ground, data) as a small ribbon keeps the connection tidy.
• Plug the female end onto the male pin of the module and the male end into a breadboard hole or the female header of the board. Follow a colour scheme (e.g. black GND, red power) and check that both ends go to the correct pin.
• Push the ends straight in until fully seated; when removing, pull by the plastic housing, not by the wire.

Points to consider:

•  In this set each wire has one male end and one female end. A connection between two male pins needs a female-female cable; a connection between two female sockets or breadboard holes needs a male-male cable.
•  It is a thin signal wire; do not use it to power high-current loads such as motors, LED strips or heaters.
•  The ends are for 2.54mm pitch; they do not fit 2.0mm or 1.27mm pitch headers, and forcing them loosens the end.
•  Do not change connections while the circuit is powered; touching a wrong pin can cause a short circuit and board failure.
•  Frequent plugging and unplugging can loosen the female socket; remove a loosened wire from the connection.
