     The Plastic Water Level Sensor 52mm is a vertically mounted liquid level sensor with a PP (polypropylene) body and a PP float. The body length is 52mm, the total length including the threaded part is 67mm and the float diameter is about 24mm. The M10 threaded body is passed through a 10mm hole in the tank or reservoir wall and fixed with the nut. As the liquid level rises and falls, the magnetic float moves along the body and actuates the reed switch inside; the sensor gives a dry contact output over 2 yellow wires.

     The product will reach you as NC. However, if you change the direction of the float, you can use it as NO. The maximum switching power is 10W, the maximum switching voltage is 100V DC and the maximum switching current is 0.5A (maximum carry current 1A). These ratings are not for driving a pump, indicator or alarm directly; they are for triggering a low voltage relay coil or a controller input.

     This product is a sensor used to detect liquid level. You cannot drive a motor pump by passing high current directly through this product. It is essential to add a relay, contactor or similar component in between. If the sensor is short circuited, it means the product has been damaged due to high current. It cannot be repaired. With its light plastic construction it detects whether the reservoir is full or empty in aquariums, hydroponic systems, water tanks and irrigation tanks; depending on the mounting position, water present or water absent information is obtained.

Key features:

     Light PP plastic body: The body and the float are polypropylene; at about 15gr it fits small tanks and thin walled plastic containers without adding load. There is no rust problem in water.

     Selectable NO / NC: The product is shipped NC; when the retainer at the end of the body is removed and the float is fitted upside down, it works as NO. The same sensor can be used for both empty and full detection.

     Vertical M10 mounting: The M10 threaded body is passed through a 10mm hole in the tank bottom or top and fixed watertight with the gasket and nut.

     Dry contact output: The reed switch gives a voltage free dry contact; it connects directly to a low voltage (e.g. 12V or 24V DC) relay coil or to a digital input of a controller.

     52mm short body: With the 52mm body and about 24mm float it takes little space in shallow tanks and small containers; the ready about 40cm cable allows connection without soldering.

Usage information:

• Pass the body through the 10mm hole in the tank surface; place the gasket against the tank surface and tighten the nut. The body must stand vertical and the float must move freely up and down. Do not overtighten the plastic thread.
• The contact comes NC. If NO is needed, remove the retainer at the end of the body, turn the float upside down, refit it and put the retainer back in place.
• To drive a pump or valve, connect the sensor to the coil circuit of a low voltage relay; the pump is powered through the relay or contactor contact. When connecting to a controller, connect one wire to GND and the other to a digital input with a pull-up resistor.

Precautions:

•  You cannot drive a motor pump by passing high current directly through this product. It is essential to add a relay, contactor or similar component in between. If the sensor is short circuited, it means the product has been damaged due to high current. It cannot be repaired.
•  Do not exceed the 10W, 100V DC and 0.5A limits; all three apply together (e.g. about 0.4A maximum at 24V, 0.1A maximum at 100V); do not switch 230V mains voltage or a 230V contactor coil through the sensor. When driving a load such as a relay coil, connect a flyback diode across the coil; switching sparks wear the reed contact.
•  The body is plastic; do not use it in liquid above +85°C, in a boiling water boiler or where it can be hit. Where hot water and a robust body are needed, choose a stainless steel (metal) water level sensor.
•  This sensor is for vertical mounting; if it is mounted horizontally on a side wall, the float does not move. For side wall mounting use a horizontal type level sensor.
•  Clean limescale, sediment and algae that block the float regularly; a stuck float reports a wrong level.
