9cm x 9cm x 1.5cm Aluminum Metal Heatsink Block
Radiator Amplifier Led Integrated Circuit Transistor Vga Ram Memory Cpu Gpu Peltier Heat Reducer 34 Fins
This product is a silver aluminum heatsink measuring 90mm x 90mm x 15mm, with a square flat base and 34 dense, thin fins. The heat-generating part sits on the flat base; heat spreads from the base into the fins of about 11.6mm height and is transferred to the air from the fin surfaces. It provides passive cooling and needs no electricity to work. Its weight is about 142gr.
The fins are about 0.7mm thick and arranged with about 2mm gaps between them; on the same base area this gives more fins and a larger surface than thick-fin heatsinks. The fins are straight with both ends open, so fan air blown from the top or side passes between the fins and leaves the heatsink. The 9cm x 9cm square base fits fully under flat parts such as COB leds, peltiers and power transistors, and an 80mm fan sits on the base without overhanging.
Key features:
34 dense fins: 34 fins of about 0.7mm thickness are arranged across 90mm width. Because the fin count is high, the surface in contact with air is large; heat is removed quickly, especially when used with a fan.
Square flat base: The 90mm x 90mm flat base gives suitable area for mounting square COB led panels, peltier modules and several power transistors side by side.
15mm low profile: Total height is 15mm; it fits in narrow boxes and cases where tall heatsinks do not fit.
Suitable for use with a fan: Both ends of the fins are open. An 80mm fan sits on the base without overhanging; fan air passes between the fins and increases cooling.
Aluminum that can be cut and drilled: The natural silver aluminum body can be shortened with a saw, and holes can be drilled and tapped in the base for screws.
Features:
- Product type: Finned aluminum passive heatsink (heat spreader)
- Number of fins: 34
- Fin structure: Straight, parallel fins with both ends open
- Base: Square, flat mounting surface
- Cooling type: Passive; can be used with a fan
- Fan fit: An 80mm fan sits on the base without overhanging
- Mounting: With thermally conductive adhesive or with screw holes drilled and tapped in the base
- Machinability: Can be cut and drilled
- Fin spacing: about 2mm
- Material: Aluminum
- Color: Silver (natural aluminum)
- Fin thickness: about 0.7mm
- Base thickness: about 3.4mm
- Fin height: about 11.6mm (15mm total height minus the base)
- Dimensions: 90mm x 90mm x 15mm (9cm x 9cm x 1.5cm)
- Weight: about 142gr
Usage information:
- Clean the surface of the part to be cooled and the base of the heatsink. Put a thin layer of thermal paste or a thermal pad between them; if you will not fix it with screws, use thermally conductive adhesive.
- Because the fin spacing is about 2mm, a screw head or nut does not fit between the fins. For screw mounting, drill holes at the points matching the mounting holes of the part, within the base thickness (about 3.4mm), tap a thread (e.g. M3) and insert the screw from the part side. In a blind hole the thread is short, so do not overtighten the screw.
- If a fan is used, place it over the fins or facing the fin ends; air should flow lengthwise between the fins.
- When used with a peltier, mount the heatsink on the hot side of the peltier and run it with a fan; a peltier must not be operated without a heatsink.
Application areas:
- COB led and power led cooling
- Aquarium and plant grow led lighting
- Peltier hot side cooling (mini fridge, cooling box)
- Amplifier output transistors
- Mosfet, transistor and regulator cooling
- Power supply and inverter circuits
- Charger and motor driver circuits
- Laser module cooling
- Flat base parts such as power resistors and SSRs
Points to consider:
- A passive heatsink has no fixed watt rating; the heat it can remove depends on ambient temperature, air flow and mounting. At high power use it with a fan and check the part temperature by measuring.
- Aluminum conducts electricity. Do not mount transistors and mosfets whose body carries voltage without an insulating pad and insulating bushing; if several parts are fixed on the same heatsink, insulate each one separately.
- Because the fins are thin they can bend when pressed by hand or hit by a hard object; hold the heatsink by the base, not by the fins, during mounting.
- There is no mounting bracket or clip for computer processors or graphics cards; this product is a general purpose heatsink for flat surfaced parts.
- Without thermal paste or pad, air remains between surfaces in direct contact and cooling drops noticeably.
