5V 128x64 Pixel Graphic Lcd Display Screen Indicator

     The Winstar WG12864B-TMI-V#N is a blue graphic LCD module with 128 columns and 64 rows and a 2.4 inch display area. It shows white dots on a blue background (STN negative) and its white LED backlight keeps it readable in the dark. Since every dot is controlled individually, text, numbers, icons, graphics and simple pictures can be shown on the same screen. It is an original Winstar product; the Winstar label and model number are on its back side.

     The module measures 75mm x 52.7mm x 8.9mm and the viewing area is 58.8mm x 31.4mm. It runs from 5V; the negative voltage needed for contrast is generated on the board and provided on the VEE pin, so no separate negative supply is needed. The display uses the NT7108 driver and is controlled over a 6800 type 8 bit parallel interface; the left and right 64 column halves of the screen are selected separately with the CS1 and CS2 pins.

     Connection is made through the 20 pin single row header on the long edge of the board; the module is screwed to a panel through the mounting holes in its four corners. Operating from -20°C to +70°C, it is used in permanent applications such as device panels, measuring instruments and control boxes.

Usage information:

• Connect VDD (1) to 5V and VSS (2) to GND. For contrast connect the two ends of a potentiometer (typically 10kΩ - 20kΩ) to VDD and VEE (18) and its middle pin to VO (3); if the screen looks blank, adjust the contrast first.
• Control needs 8 data lines (DB0 - DB7) and 6 control lines (CS1, CS2, /RST, R/W, D/I, E), 14 I/O pins in total. CS1 selects the left half of the screen (columns 1 - 64), CS2 the right half (columns 65 - 128).
• For the backlight connect A (19) to positive and K (20) to GND.

Precautions:

•  This display has an 8 bit parallel interface; it does not work over I2C or SPI and needs 14 connection pins (8 data and 6 control). If a low pin count connection is needed, choose a serial interface display.
•  The pin order of 12864 displays differs from model to model. On this model pin 1 is VDD and pin 2 is VSS; do not use the wiring diagram of another 12864 display directly.
•  The module runs from 5V (4.5V - 5.5V). A level shifter is recommended with 3.3V logic controller boards.
•  Before powering the backlight check whether the board has a current limiting resistor; if not, add a series resistor to the A pin.
•  Do not press on the glass and do not open the frame tabs holding the display on the back; the display connection may be damaged.
