28dB LNA Gain SMA Male 3 Meter Cable

     This product is an active GPS antenna that works on the 1575.42MHz GPS L1 frequency and contains a 28dB gain low noise amplifier (LNA). The black plastic antenna head measures 46mm x 38mm x 13mm; its magnetic base holds it on metal surfaces such as a car roof without screws. The 3 Meter RG174 coaxial cable coming out of the head ends in an SMA male (center pin) connector.

     The antenna takes its power from the GPS receiver through the cable: it works between 3V - 5V and draws at most 10mA. Because the amplifier boosts the satellite signal right at the antenna, the loss in the 3 Meter cable is compensated; the GPS receiver can stay inside a vehicle, a box or a metal enclosure while the antenna head is placed where it sees the sky. The housing is waterproof and works between -40°C and 85°C, so it can be used outdoors, on vehicles and boats.

     It is suitable for GPS receivers with an SMA female antenna input that supply antenna power, vehicle trackers, navigation devices and GPS module projects. If the module has a u.FL (IPEX) antenna socket, a u.FL - SMA female adapter cable is used in between.

Usage information:

• Place the antenna head where it clearly sees the sky, preferably on a flat metal surface such as a car roof; the flat face of the head should point up.
• Plug the SMA male connector into the SMA female antenna input of the GPS receiver and tighten the nut by hand. If your module has a u.FL (IPEX) socket, use a u.FL - SMA female adapter cable.
• The antenna is active; it takes its power from the antenna input of the receiver through the cable. Check that your receiver supplies 3V - 5V antenna power on its antenna input.
• When routing the cable into the vehicle, choose a path where door or trunk seals will not crush it; coil the extra cable in wide loops.

Precautions:

•  This antenna is active; the amplifier does not work without a 3V - 5V supply. With receivers that do not supply power on the antenna input the signal stays weak or is not received at all.
•  The connector is SMA male (center pin); it does not fit devices with an RP-SMA input directly.
•  Inside buildings, under a metal roof or behind metal coated glass the satellite signal gets weaker; the antenna must see the sky.
•  The antenna is for the 1575.42MHz GPS L1 frequency; it is not a replacement for a mobile phone, Wi-Fi or GSM antenna.
•  Do not bend the cable sharply, crush it or pull it by the connector; the thin RG174 cable can be damaged.
