     The N Type Female to N Type Female Socket Adapter is a straight coaxial inline coupler with an N type female (jack) socket at both ends. It joins two cables with N type male connectors, or an antenna with an N male end to a cable with an N male end, without cutting and refitting connectors. It has 50 Ohm impedance and is used in RF lines in the DC - 6GHz range.

     The body is nickel plated metal; a knurled grip section sits between the two externally threaded N socket ends, and the centre contacts are gold coloured plated female sockets. It measures about 16.5mm x 34mm and weighs 32gr. It is an inline (cable to cable) type, not a panel mount type; it is a one piece part and does not come apart.

     It is used to extend a short N male ended cable or to join two cables in Wi-Fi and point to point wireless link antenna lines, LoRa and Helium gateways, GSM / 4G modem and router external antennas and two-way radio and ham radio installations. Usage information:

• Align the centre pin of the N male connector straight with the centre socket of the adapter, then screw the connector nut onto the outer thread of the adapter by hand. Fit the second N male connector to the other end the same way.
• When tightening, turn only the connector nut, not the cable or the adapter; hand tight is enough. If the centre pin rotates, the socket and the pin wear.
• Outdoors, wrap the joint with self-amalgamating tape and then insulating tape to protect it from water and moisture.

Precautions:

•  Both ends of the adapter are female; it mates only with N type male connectors. It does not fit SMA, RP-SMA, F type or BNC connectors directly; a separate converter adapter is needed for those.
•  The frequency range is DC - 6GHz; do not use it above this range.
•  Do not over-tighten the connectors with a wrench; the threads and the centre contact may be damaged.
•  No waterproof rating is specified for the adapter; if an outdoor joint is not taped, water may get in and signal loss increases.
•  Each joint adds a small loss to the line; do not use more couplers than needed and prefer a single piece cable where possible.
