P6100 Oscilloscope Probe
100MHz x1 x10 Gain Switched DC 300 / 600V CATII BNC 1 Meter Cable Scope Rigol OWON
P6100 is a x1 / x10 switchable passive oscilloscope probe for oscilloscopes with BNC inputs. In the x10 position it offers DC - 100MHz bandwidth and a rise time shorter than 3.5ns; in the x1 position the bandwidth is DC - 6MHz. It can measure up to 600V in the x10 position and up to 200V in the x1 position (DC + AC peak). The probe body is grey and the cable is black; the cable ends in a male BNC connector that plugs into the oscilloscope channel.
The slide switch on the body selects an attenuation ratio of 1:1 or 10:1: x1 is used for small, low-frequency signals and x10 for fast-edge and high-voltage signals. The sprung hook tip at the end of the approximately 120mm probe body clips onto pins and component legs; the detachable ground lead with crocodile clip is attached to the GND point of the circuit. Plastic colour rings can be used to identify channels.
The compensation trimmer adjusts to oscilloscopes with 10pF - 30pF input capacitance; it is compatible with most oscilloscopes with 1MΩ BNC inputs such as Rigol, OWON, Hantek, Siglent and FNIRSI. It can be bought as a spare to replace a broken or lost probe, or as an extra probe for a second or third channel.
Key features:
x1 / x10 switchable: One probe does two jobs. The x1 position shows small signals without attenuation; the x10 position reduces probe loading and gives up to 100MHz bandwidth and a measurement range up to 600V.
100MHz bandwidth, 3.5ns rise time: With DC - 100MHz bandwidth and a rise time shorter than 3.5ns in the x10 position, the edges of PWM, clock and communication signals are displayed clearly.
Adjustable compensation: The trimmer matches the probe to oscilloscope channels with 10pF - 30pF input capacitance; square wave corners become flat and the measurement is accurate.
Ready tip and ground connection: The sprung hook tip clips onto the measuring point and the ground lead with crocodile clip attaches to GND; both hands stay free.
Standard BNC: The male BNC connector plugs into the oscilloscope channel and locks with a twist; it works with most oscilloscopes with 1MΩ inputs.

Usage information:
- Plug the BNC connector into the oscilloscope channel and twist to lock. Set the switch on the body to x1 or x10 and set the probe ratio in the oscilloscope channel menu to the same value (1X / 10X); otherwise the voltage shown on screen will be wrong by a factor of 10.
- Compensate the probe on first use and whenever you move it to another channel: connect the probe in the x10 position to the oscilloscope's square wave calibration output (usually 1kHz) and turn the trimmer with a small screwdriver until the corners of the square wave are flat.
- Attach the ground crocodile clip to the GND point of the circuit and the hook tip to the measuring point. For fast-edge signals keep the ground connection as close to the measuring point as possible.
Application areas:
- Electronic fault finding, repair and technical service
- Motherboard, TV and appliance board repair
- SMPS and power supply waveform and ripple measurement
- Inspecting microcontroller PWM, clock, UART, I2C and SPI signals
- Audio amplifier and analog circuit measurements
- Monitoring automotive sensor and control signals
- School, university and R&D laboratories
- Motor driver and inverter control board signals
- Spare probe to replace a broken or lost oscilloscope probe
- Extra channel probe for multi-channel oscilloscopes
Things to consider:
- In the x1 position the bandwidth is only DC - 6MHz. Measure high-frequency and fast-edge signals in the x10 position.
- Do not exceed the voltage limit: up to 600V at x10 and up to 200V at x1 (DC + AC peak). Use the x10 position above 200V; for mains measurements follow the ground warning below.
- On mains-powered oscilloscopes with an earthed plug, the probe's ground clip is connected to mains earth through the oscilloscope. Connecting the ground clip to a mains phase or to a non-earthed potential (such as the primary side of a non-isolated SMPS) causes a short circuit and damages the probe, the oscilloscope and the circuit. Use an isolation transformer or a differential probe for such measurements.
- An uncompensated probe shows overshoot or rounding on a square wave and measures amplitude incorrectly. Repeat compensation for every new oscilloscope and channel.
