Driver Connection A4988 DRV8825 TMC2209 CNC Shield RAMPS 3D Printer Laser Engraver Plotter Camera Slider Robot
The Stepper Motor Cable 6 Pin 4 Pin is a 1 meter connection cable with connectors on both ends, made to connect a Nema 17 stepper motor to its driver. The white socket on the motor side is a 6 pin socket with 2mm pitch (2 positions empty) and plugs directly into the 6 pin socket on the back of Nema 17 motors. The black 4 pin female dupont connector on the other end has 2.54mm pitch and plugs onto the motor output pins of stepper driver modules and driver boards.
The cable has 4 conductors in red, blue, green and black; the conductors are joined side by side as a flat cable, so it routes neatly and fits easily into a cable duct. The four ends of the two coils of the Nema 17 stepper motor are carried to the driver by these four conductors. No soldering, crimping tool or extra connector is needed; the cable is plugged into the motor and the driver and used right away.
The 1 meter length is enough to reach the axis motors of 3D printers, CNC and laser engraving machines where the driver sits far from the motor. It is used to replace a broken or too short motor cable and to connect motors in newly built machines.
Key features:
Fits the Nema 17 socket: The 6 pin, 2mm pitch white socket on the motor side fits directly into the socket of Nema 17 stepper motors; 4 of the 6 positions are populated, 2 are empty.
Plugs directly onto driver pins: The 2.54mm pitch 4 pin female dupont connector plugs onto the motor output pins of stepper driver modules and boards such as CNC Shield and RAMPS.
Solderless, ready cable: It comes with connectors on both ends; the motor is connected to the driver without soldering or crimping, and a faulty cable is replaced in minutes.
Easy to trace conductors: Red, blue, green and black conductors make it easy to follow which motor lead goes to which driver pin.
Reaches far axes: The motor on a far axis is reached without an extension cable while the driver board stays in a corner of the machine.

Usage information:
- Push the white 6 pin socket fully into the socket on the back of the Nema 17 motor, with its latch aligned to the slot of the motor socket. Plug the black 4 pin dupont end onto the motor output pins of the driver (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B or 2B, 2A, 1A, 1B).
- Check the coil pairs before connecting: if a multimeter reads a few ohms between two conductors at the dupont end, these two conductors belong to the same coil. The two conductors of one coil must go to the same coil output of the driver (1A-1B or 2A-2B).
- If the motor vibrates without turning, the coil pairs are mixed; swap the pin positions in the dupont housing. If the motor turns in the wrong direction, swapping the two ends of a single coil or reversing the direction in software is enough.
Application areas:
- 3D printer X, Y, Z axis and extruder motors
- CNC milling and router axis motors
- Laser engraving and cutting machines
- Plotters and handwriting machines
- Camera sliders and time-lapse rigs
- Robot arms and moving robot mechanisms
- Conveyor, dosing and automation rigs
- Stepper motor test and training rigs
- Replacing a broken or too short motor cable
Things to consider:
- Do not plug or unplug the cable while the driver is powered; the stepper driver can be damaged if the motor connection is broken under power.
- The order of the coil leads in the 6 pin socket can differ between motor manufacturers. Do not run the motor for the first time without measuring the coil pairs.
- The motor side is a 6 pin, 2mm pitch socket; it does not fit motors with a 4 pin or 2.5mm pitch (XH type) socket. Check the socket on your motor before buying.
- The dupont connector has no latch. On vibrating machines such as 3D printers and CNC, secure the cable with a clamp or cable duct and do not leave strain on the connector.
