DM860H 2 Phase DC 110V 7,2A Stepper Motor Driver With Fan
Nema 23 Nema 34 40000 Microstep
The DM860H is a digital microstep driver for 2-phase stepper motors. It is supplied with DC 24V - 110V or AC 18V - 80V and delivers 2.4A - 7.2A peak (2.0A - 6.0A RMS) to the motor. It is made to drive high-current Nema23 and Nema34 stepper motors; the current and step tables are printed on the front label, so no manual is needed for setup.
The pulse (PUL), direction (DIR) and enable (ENA) signals from the controller enter through optically isolated inputs; the pulse frequency is up to 200kHz. The motor current is selected in 8 steps with switches SW1 - SW3, and the steps per revolution in 16 steps between 400 and 51200 with switches SW5 - SW8; SW4 sets whether the current halves when the motor stands still. At power-up the driver tunes itself to the connected motor.
Its cooling fan makes it suitable for continuous operation at high current. It has overvoltage, undervoltage and overcurrent protection; the PWR/FAULT light shows power and fault status. The 152mm x 97mm x 52mm body is screwed to the cabinet through two mounting slots spaced 135mm apart.
Key features:
High voltage, high current: With DC 24V - 110V or AC 18V - 80V supply and up to 7.2A peak current it drives large Nema34 stepper motors strongly at high speed.
Setup from the label: The current table (2.4A - 7.2A, 8 steps) and the step table (400 - 51200 steps/rev, 16 steps) are printed on the front of the driver; it is set up with the DIP switches in minutes.
Optically isolated inputs: The PUL, DIR and ENA inputs have plus and minus terminals and are optically isolated; they work in pulse/direction mode with pulses up to 200kHz.
Auto tuning and idle current reduction: At power-up it tunes itself to the motor parameters; with SW4 the current halves while the motor stands still, reducing motor heating.
Fan cooling and protections: The cooling fan, overvoltage, undervoltage and overcurrent protection and the PWR/FAULT light protect the driver in long machine runs.

Usage information:
- Connect one motor winding to A+ / A- and the other winding to B+ / B-; apply the supply to the AC terminals (DC 24V - 110V or AC 18V - 80V). If the motor turns the wrong way, swap the two ends of one winding or change the DIR signal.
- Set switches SW1 - SW3 from the current table on the front according to the phase current on the motor label; leave SW4 off (half current) to reduce heating while the motor stands still.
- Select the steps per revolution with SW5 - SW8 from the step table and set the steps/mm in the control software (e.g. Mach3, LinuxCNC, GRBL) accordingly. Connect the pulse and direction outputs of the controller to the PUL and DIR inputs; the ENA input is for disabling the driver; if not used, it is usually left unconnected.
- Change the DIP switch settings only while the driver supply is off.
Applications:
- CNC routers and woodworking machines
- Laser cutting and laser engraving machines
- Plasma cutting tables
- CNC lathe and milling conversions
- Engraving and carving machines
- Conveyors, feeders and positioning axes
- Automation machines and packaging lines
- Large 3D printers and linear axis systems
- Rotary tables and indexing heads
Precautions:
- Do not plug or unplug the motor wires while the driver is powered; the driver may be damaged.
- The supply must not exceed DC 110V or AC 80V; leave margin in the supply for back EMF.
- Do not set the driver current higher than the phase current of the motor; the motor overheats.
- This driver is only for 2-phase stepper motors; it cannot drive 3-phase stepper motors or brushed/brushless DC motors.
- Do not block the airflow of the fan; mount the driver in a ventilated place inside the cabinet.
