XDS100 V2 DSP Usb Jtag Emulator
Texas TI DSP Debugger Programmer Debugger ARM9 Cortex A8 TMS320
The XDS100 V2 USB JTAG emulator is a debugger based on the second release (XDS100v2) of the Texas Instruments XDS100 JTAG emulator technology, allowing programming and debugging of many TI DSP and ARM processors. It provides direct access between the computer and the target processor through the 14-pin TI JTAG connector; it works with a USB 2.0 High Speed connection and takes its power from USB.
The emulator works with TI's free Code Composer Studio (CCS) v4 and later versions; the drivers are installed automatically when CCS is installed. Program loading, on-chip Flash programming, breakpoints and step-by-step debugging can be done on a wide range of targets, from C2000 (TMS320C28x) motor control and power electronics processors to C5000/C6000 DSPs, ARM9 and Cortex-A8/A9/R4/M3 cores. The product is a compatible (FYDK) build based on the TI reference design.

- Driver: Drivers are installed automatically when Code Composer Studio is installed
- Target voltage: Processors with 1.8V - 3.3V JTAG level
- Power: Powered from USB, DC 5V 70mA (label value); no external adapter needed
- Power loss detection: Target power loss and cable break detection
- Adaptive Clock: Adaptive JTAG clock (RTCK) support
- Indicator: STATUS LED
- Compliance: CE and RoHS labelled
- Color: Grey plastic case, blue USB cable
Usage information:
- First install Code Composer Studio; the emulator drivers are installed automatically with it. Then connect the emulator to the PC with the USB cable.
- Power the target board with its own power supply and plug the 14-pin flat cable into the target's JTAG connector with the red striped wire on pin 1.
- In CCS create a new Target Configuration, select "Texas Instruments XDS100v2 USB Debug Probe" as the connection, select your processor and verify the link with "Test Connection"; then load the program and start debugging.
Application areas:
- Motor driver and motor control software development (C2000 / TMS320F28x)
- Inverter, UPS and digital power supply software debugging
- Automation devices: Flash programming and firmware updates
- Education: university DSP and embedded systems laboratories
- Audio and signal processing (C5000 / C6000 DSP) projects
- Solar (photovoltaic) inverter and charger development
- Debugging boards with ARM9 and Cortex-A8 / A9 based TI processors
- Repair: reloading the software of boards with TI processors
- First bring-up work on R&D and prototype boards
Precautions:
- The emulator does not power the target board; the target board must be powered by its own power supply.
- The emulator is for the 14-pin TI JTAG connector. Targets with a 20-pin (cTI) or ARM 10 / 20-pin JTAG connector require a suitable adapter.
- Pay attention to the pin 1 orientation when plugging in the flat cable; a reversed cable can damage the target or the emulator.
- Code Composer Studio v3.3 and earlier are not supported; use CCS v4 or later. Operating system support depends on the CCS version you install.
