MG90S Metal Gear Servo
PWM Robot Arm Hand Finger Gripper RC Airplane Glider Helicopter Drone Pan Tilt Camera Model Car Boat Walking Robot
The MG90S is a metal gear micro servo motor measuring 22.8mm x 12.2mm x 28.5mm and weighing 13.4gr. It operates between 4.8V and 6V; it delivers 1.8kg/cm stall torque at 4.8V and 2.2kg/cm at 6V, and turns 60 degrees in 0.10s at 4.8V and 0.08s at 6V. Its shaft moves to the desired angle within up to 180 degrees and holds that position under load.
Because its gear train is metal, it is more resistant to impact, sudden load and wear than plastic gear micro servos of the same size (such as the SG90); the risk of a broken gear is lower when a control surface hits an obstacle or a robot arm is strained under load. It is easily fixed with the screw tabs on both sides of the semi-transparent case; the 3-pin JR / Futaba compatible connector at the end of the about 25cm cable plugs directly into RC receivers and servo driver boards.
Thanks to its small size and torque it is suitable for robot arm joints, camera pan-tilt mechanisms, the control surfaces of RC airplanes and gliders, and the steering of model vehicles. The package contains 3 servo horns and their screws, so the servo can be mounted on the project right away.
Key features:
Metal gear train: Metal gears transfer the power from the motor to the shaft. Compared with plastic gear micro servos, the risk of stripped or broken gears under impact and sudden load is low, and gear wear is reduced in long-term use.
Small and light body: With 13.4gr weight and 22.8mm x 12.2mm x 28.5mm size it fits micro servo slots and adds little weight to light model airplanes and robot joints.
Holds its position: The internal position feedback of the servo moves the shaft to the commanded angle and holds it there under load. It delivers 1.8kg/cm stall torque at 4.8V and 2.2kg/cm at 6V.
Ready connection: The 3-wire (brown GND, red +, orange signal) JR / Futaba compatible connector plugs directly into an RC receiver, a servo driver board or a control board with PWM output; no soldering is needed.
Wide supply range: It operates between 4.8V and 6V; it can be used with a 4-cell NiMH pack (4.8V) or a 5V - 6V regulated supply.

Usage information:
- Connect the brown wire to GND, the red wire to the 5V supply and the orange wire to the PWM output of the control board. If you use a separate supply, join the GND of the supply with the GND of the control board.
- The control signal is 50Hz; a 1.5ms pulse is the centre position (about 90 degrees). The pulse widths for the end positions vary slightly from servo to servo; set the end values without forcing the mechanical limit, so that the servo does not press against its end stop and buzz.
- Before fitting the servo horn, set the servo to 90 degrees; centre the horn in this position and fix it with its screw.
Areas of use:
- Robot arm and claw joints
- Control surfaces of remote controlled airplanes, gliders and helicopters
- Quadcopter and drone mechanisms
- Camera pan-tilt mechanisms
- Model car and boat steering control
- Humanoid and four-legged walking robots
- Education and STEM robotics projects
- Automatic lids, latches and small lock mechanisms
- Solar tracking and sensor positioning systems
- Scale models, moving figures and hobby projects
Precautions:
- The servo can draw up to 700mA under load. If you use more than one servo, power them from a separate 5V source with sufficient current, not from the 5V pin of the control board.
- Do not turn the servo shaft by force by hand; the gears and the position potentiometer may be damaged.
- A servo forced beyond its 180 degree mechanical limit or left stalled for a long time heats up. Build the mechanism so that the servo works within its limits.
- The operating voltage is in the 4.8V - 6.0V range. A higher supply shortens the life of the servo and may damage it.
- This product is an angular position servo and does not rotate continuously through 360 degrees; a continuous rotation (360 degree) servo is needed to drive a wheel.
