The TCRT5000 is made of 2 infrared leds. There is 1 infrared light emitting led together with 1 infrared light detecting led. The transmitter led sends infrared light. The light hitting a surface returns and the detector led reads the light. The sensor is used to detect the surface distance and the surface color. It is used for object obstacle detection at short distance. It can easily be used in line following robots, mini sumo, sumo and many other various robots. It works properly between 0.2mm and 15mm.
