Original SEGGER J-Link Edu Mini 8.08.91 ARM Cortex-M JTAG SWD Debugger Programmer Debug Probe
SWO Flash Programming STM32 nRF52 SAMD21 LPC Kinetis Cortex M0 M3 M4 M7 M33 IoT Drone
This is an original SEGGER product (SEGGER part number 8.08.91). The J-Link Edu Mini is a small J-Link debug probe designed for education and hobby users. It uses the same software platform as the professional J-Link family; it connects to ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers over JTAG or SWD and lets you load programs (flash programming), step through code, set breakpoints and watch memory and registers.
It connects to the computer over USB 2.0 Full-Speed (Micro USB-B) and is powered from USB, so no separate power supply is needed. The connection to the target board is made through a 1.27mm (0.05") pitch Cortex-M debug connector; the target interface speed is up to 4MHz and it works with 3.3V targets. Because the SWO output can be read, trace (printf) messages from the target can also be seen on the computer while the program runs.
SEGGER's free J-Link Software and Documentation Pack runs on Windows, Linux and macOS; software and firmware updates are free, and the Unlimited Flash Breakpoints feature is also licensed for this model. Thanks to the GDB Server it can be used with development environments that support GDB. The J-Link Edu Mini is for non-commercial educational and hobby use ONLY; it cannot be used for commercial product development or production.
Features:

- Target interface: JTAG and SWD, SWO reading support
- Target interface speed: up to 4MHz
- SWO sampling frequency: up to 4MHz
- Target interface voltage: 3.3V
- Target power supply: none; the target board must run on its own supply

- Unlimited Flash Breakpoints license included
- Operating systems: Windows, Linux, macOS (on Linux and macOS: J-Link Commander, command line GDB Server and shared library)
- License: non-commercial educational and hobby use only
- Target connector: 9-pin 1.27mm (0.05") Samtec FTSH Cortex-M debug connector (2x5 layout, fits 10-pin cables)
- Operating temperature: 5°C - 60°C (storage -20°C - 65°C)
- Material: green PCB with a translucent protective cover
- Dimensions (without cables): 42.5mm x 22mm x 8mm
- Weight (without cables): 10gr
Usage information:
- Install the J-Link Software and Documentation Pack from SEGGER's website; plug the J-Link Edu Mini into the computer with the Micro USB cable, the driver is installed with the pack.
- Plug the 1.27mm 2x5 pin cable in the package into the target board's Cortex-M debug (SWD/JTAG) connector, paying attention to pin 1 orientation. Run the target board on its own supply; the J-Link reads the target voltage from the VTref pin.
- Select J-Link as the debugger in your development environment and set the interface to SWD (or JTAG) and the speed to at most 4MHz. You can test the connection with J-Link Commander.
Application areas:
- Embedded systems education in university, school and course laboratories
- Firmware development on Cortex-M boards such as STM32, nRF52, SAMD21, LPC and Kinetis
- Debugging motor control and sensor software in robotics projects
- IoT and wireless sensor node projects
- Programming Cortex-M based hobby boards such as drone flight controllers
- Loading a bootloader and reprogramming the flash memory of a locked board
- Reading trace (printf) messages from the running program over SWO
- Student graduation projects and personal hobby projects
Points to consider:
- The J-Link Edu Mini license allows only non-commercial educational and hobby use. It cannot be used in a company or for commercial product development or production; commercial J-Link models are needed for that use.
- The device does not supply power to the target board. If the target board is not running on its own supply, no connection can be made.
- The target interface voltage is 3.3V. Do not connect it directly to targets running at 5V.
- Check pin 1 orientation when plugging in the cable; a reversed connector prevents a connection to the target.
- SEGGER does not provide technical support for this model; questions are asked on the SEGGER community forum.
