TXS0108E 8 Channel 2 Way Logic Level Converter
I2C SPI UART SD Card 1.8V 3.3V 5V Compatible Dual Bi-Directional Logic Level Shifter Converter
The TXS0108E based 8 channel bidirectional logic level converter module provides safe communication between microcontrollers, sensors, communication modules and peripherals operating at different logic levels such as 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V and 5V. It performs automatic bidirectional level conversion between the A and B sides without requiring a direction control pin.
The TXS0108E 8 Channel 2 Way Logic Level Converter Module is a compact logic level converter module used so that digital circuits operating at different voltage levels can communicate without damaging each other.
It is used to provide signal compatibility between systems operating at different logic levels such as Arduino, ESP32, STM32, Raspberry Pi, sensor modules, SD card modules, displays and communication circuits. For example, it helps establish safe digital communication between an Arduino operating at 5V logic level and a sensor or module operating at 3.3V level.
There is a TXS0108E IC on the module. This IC is an 8 bit, bidirectional voltage level converter that does not require direction control. The A side must be used as the low voltage side and the B side as the high voltage side. According to the TI documentation, the A port operates in the 1.4V-3.6V range and the B port in the 1.65V-5.5V range, and the VCCA value must not be greater than VCCB. The TXS0108E supports data rates up to 110Mbps on push-pull signals and up to 1.2Mbps on open-drain signals.
Features:
- IC: TXS0108E
- Number of channels: 8 channels
- Operating type: Bidirectional logic level conversion
- Usage type: Digital logic signal conversion
- Direction control: Not required, automatic direction detection
- A side supply: DC 1.4V - 3.6V
- B side supply: DC 1.65V - 5.5V
- Basic condition: VCCA and below VCCB
- Compatible logic levels: 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, 5V
- Communication examples: I2C, Spi, Uart, Sd card, Mcu sensor connections
- OE pin: Enable pin; at low level the outputs become Hi-Z
- Dimensions: 15mm x 21mm
- Weight: 3gr
Connection description:
- VCCA: The supply voltage of the low voltage system is connected. Example: 1.8V or 3.3V.
- VCCB: The supply voltage of the high voltage system is connected. Example: 5V.
- GND: The ground line of both systems must be commoned.
- A1-A8: Digital signal pins on the low voltage side.
- B1-B8: Digital signal pins on the high voltage side.
- OE: It is the output enable pin of the module. In continuously active use it is generally pulled to the VCCA level; when OE is low the outputs go into the high impedance state. TI also recommends that OE be connected to GND through a pull-down resistor during power up/down periods.
Usage examples:
- Communication between a 5V Arduino and a 3.3V sensor
- Connection of a 5V logic level module with ESP32 / STM32
- Level adaptation between Raspberry Pi GPIO and a 5V peripheral
- Logic level conversion on Sd card, I2C sensor, SPI module or UART communication lines
- Communication of digital circuits using 5V input/output with a 3.3V microcontroller
Important usage notes:
- This product is not a voltage regulator or power converter; it must only be used for level conversion of digital logic signals. It is not used to power external modules, motors, LED strips or loads drawing high current. The internal pull-up structure of the TXS0108E works at low current levels; the TI documentation states that attention must be paid to the output load and line capacitance, and that short PCB traces are preferred.
- In high speed SPI/UART or long cable applications, testing on the circuit is recommended. The TXS0108E is especially suitable for open-drain and mixed open-drain / push-pull applications; in some designs that are predominantly push-pull only, different level shifter families may be more suitable.
